cursor not working

Whenever I launch a new game in DeSmuME—say, Pokémon Platinum—the key bindings stop responding and the cursor won’t let me advance past the intro. I also ran into a communication-error crash while playing Pokémon Sacred Gold that corrupted my save; my 50-hour progress vanished, the last usable backup is from the 20-hour mark, and I’d like to know if the lost data can be recovered.

You can't get past the intro, but you played 50 hours into a game. I don't understand what's going on.
No, there's no recovery, unless you made savestates at 49 hours and you check the savestate backups directory. It's your responsibility to backup important documents that you spend 50 hours authoring.

If there are no usable saves or backups, then unfortunately recovery is unlikely. It does seem odd to have reached 50 hours without getting past the intro, so it might help to clarify exactly what happened and whether any autosaves, savestate backups, or exported files still exist.
